Sabai Thai

Getting to Sabai Thai

Sabai Thai is not in the main downtown Port Angeles area, although they are on somewhat of a main drag 1.54 miles to the south of downtown.

From Front Street in Port Angeles, head south on Lincoln Street. Turn west (right) on 8th street. You'll find Sabai Thai Restaurant on the right hand side of the road 2 blocks after crossing TWO bridges over mountainous ravines.

If you're rolling into Port Angeles from the west, from the direction of Lake Crescent or Forks, Highway 101 will enter Port Angeles and turn into Lincoln Street. Turn left from Lincoln onto 8th Street, cross the two bridges, and find Sabai Thai on the right hand side at Eighth and B Street, as described above.

About Sabai Thai

I wanted to bring Sabai Thai food home during the pandemic shut-down. It had been a while since I'd been there, so I asked my daughter (who visited Thailand and who loves Thai food), "What do you suggest I order?"

"Literally anything on the menu," she said. "The cuisine is legit, straight from the homeland." After further questioning, I learned she has a soft spot for the Phad Thai, and for Green or Yellow Curry.

The owners of Sabai Thai, hosts Viroch, Kasemsri, and Renu, realize that a life that is enjoyable - "sanuk" - and comfortable and relaxed - "sabai" - is a life worth living. If their Thai food results in making your life enjoyable and relaxed, even for an evening, they will have accomplished their goal, and you will resolve to make a return visit, if possible.

Sabai Thai brings a passion for Thai food straight from their homeland of Thailand. Every return visit of the owners to Thailand brings new inspiration to their menu. And in fact, your taste buds will convince you that Sabai Thai is a tiny piece of Thailand located right here in Port Angeles.

The authentic Thai cooking includes the typical spices and flavors that unmistakably characterize Thai cuisine: lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, coriander, galangal (in the ginger family), garlic, sweet basil, coconut milk and fish sauce. Their menu features local seasonal fish, salmon, crab, and clams, and they additionally include fresh, in-season vegetables in order to enhance each distinctive plate.

What Customers Think About Sabai Thai

My assistant Meghan and I enjoyed Sabai Thai meals (to-go) recently. Red Curry with pork for Meghan, and Yellow Curry with prawns for me. Let me just say that as she worked her way through a second helping of Red Curry, Meghan leaned back with eyes half-closed and exclaimed contentedly, "I could just die and go to heaven...!"

Agreed!

Out of 500 reviews on Trip Advisor, 380 reviews rate Sabai Thai as excellent, and 84 of them rate the restaurant as very good.

  • One customer said that that their massaman curry was the best they had ever eaten and that everything they had during their visit was delicious and very generous in portions.
  • Another customer said that, on the way back from the ocean beaches west of Port Angeles, they stopped to eat at Sabai Thai and had a wonderful meal. They loved the sweet and and sour chicken, and the Phad Thai, and wished to return the following day to have the same meal. They said that the food was excellent.
  • Another customer said that a local recommended they eat here. From start to finish, they said, their meal was fabulous, including fried prawns as an appetizer, meals of Emperors cashew (one with chicken and one with prawns), and emerald curry with chicken. It was all 'terrific' - their word.
